In May 2013, MND and Me Foundation founder Scott Sullivan and Dr Ian Davis set off on a custom built trike to ride the 1,000,000 metres from Brisbane to Sydney. The two men were in the prime of their lives when they were diagnosed with motor neurone disease, a fatal condition. In typical fashion, they didn’t let that stop them. The aim of this first ride was to raise awareness and much needed funds for MND Research. They raised over $125,000 and most importantly raised awareness of MND in Queensland and regional NSW. You can view details of the ride HERE.
In 2016, a group of MND and Me Riders honoured the original ride by completing it again and this time raising over $160,000. Greeting them in Sydney were Dr Derik Steyn and Dr Shyuan Ngo, two MND researchers at the University of Queensland. Since then, Derik and Shu have completed many of the MND and Me Challenges, including swimming and running. Now is their time for riding!
Derik and Shu have this time committed to ride their own bikes over the original Million Metres course of 16 days, but in this time of Covid-19, they will do it on their wind trainers at home.
You can join them on the ride (either on a wind trainer or out on the road) and help them to help us continue raising awareness and funds to find a cure for MND. Register now and ride along at home! You can choose either the 16 day or 7 day itinerary to ride along with them or complete it at your own pace if you choose.

The original ride was documented in the documentary – Legacy – A Ride To Conquer Motor Neurone Disease. Every rider who starts fundraising for the Million Metres Ride at Home 2020 will receive a copy of the full DVD documenting the original ride. You can use this to motivate yourself or to help us raise awareness by lending it to your donors to watch.
Please register now and join Derik and Shu on their Million Metres Ride at home!
