I'm doing this ride to support my brother who has been living with MND since September 2011. The MND and Me Foundation helped my brother directly via funding to have a vehicle adapted for his wheelchair which was life changing for him at the time.

I was registered to do the Pies to Pacific Charity ride for the MNDandMe Foundation on May 16 and it was unfortunately postponed due to the corona virus. I want to still do something to raise money for the charity so the foundation can continue to support Queenslanders living with MND.

I have seen the devastation MND causes to those diagnosed with it as well as to their families and loved ones. I'm doing this challenge to become part of the solution to ensure no Queenslander has to face Motor Neurone Disease alone.

I know that the MND and Me Foundation does great work supporting both people with MND and their families while also funding critical research.

The Pies to Pacific ride I would have been doing on this day had it not been postponed due to the corona virus is a major fundraising event each year for the foundation so I wanted to still do something to raise much needed funds on that day.

I've chosen to ride on zwift from my garage in line with the advice to stay at home and will ride the extremely challenging Mega Pretzell course, TWICE for a total of 215km and 3300m of vertical climbing which is likely to take around 9hrs of non-stop riding.

No donation is too small and any support you can provide is greatly appreciated.

What is Motor Neurone Disease?

You have nerves in your brain and spinal cord that control how your muscles work. These are called motor neurones. MND is a disease that affects the motor neurones. With MND, motor neurones gradually stop telling your muscles how to move. When muscles no longer move, they become weak, which can also lead to stiffness and loss of muscle mass (wasting). MND is a life-shortening illness that can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. T

my vr ride set up

20 May 2020

231km - the longest ride I've ever done in my 37years of cycling IRL or VR.
3556m of vertical climbing - also the most climbing I've ever done in one ride.
8hrs 7 mins riding time at an avg of 28.5km/hr - the longest continuous exercise session since my last Ironman over 20years ago.
I wanted to have to dig deep for this and I wanted it to have to hurt to finish it. I did!!

Huge thankyou to everyone who donated and supported this ride for MND. 45 donations, $3000!! What a fantastic result! Definitely one of the hardest rides I've ever done in my life. Most k's in one ride. Most climbing meters in one ride! Most challenging mentally being alone in my garage the whole time!

Got underway at 4:15am with a very easy roll out and after a taper week and good prep for today, the legs are feeling very good earlier on. 6 biddons to start with, 6 Gu gels, 3 packs of Chews, 2 jam sandwiches and then just in case I start to hunger flat towards the end, there’s the emergency cokes and mars bar!

Would much rather be riding with the group this weekend down to Byron Bay to raise a heap of money for this great cause, but hopefully I can still contribute a good tally by sitting on my home trainer for 8+ hours this saturday. Starting at 4am AEST - feel free to jump on zwift and join me for a few k's or a few hours.

My Zwift avatar scored the KOM jersey on the Box Hill climb this morning - a good sign the training is going well. Just need to keep that up for 9hrs next Saturday and on the EPIC KOM climb - 4 times over 215km

The Mega Pretzel Course is one of the toughest on Zwift - especially for non-climbers like me! This ride is going to hurt - a lot!
